College Essay Specialist


 

Thompson College Consulting is a growing college planning business located in Seattle, WA. We’re looking for a part-time virtual College Essay Specialist and we encourage you to submit a cover letter and resume if you’re interested in joining our team!

Who are we?

Thompson College Consulting coaches high school students through the college planning process. We help students develop their college lists and support them through the application season, with the goal of staying as calm and stress-free as possible and having some fun along the way! We help students find colleges that fit from an academic, social and financial standpoint.

Our goal is for students to successfully navigate the college planning process while maintaining good relationships at home. We take pride in helping our students to feel good about the process and their college options. Our students are aiming for everything from Ivy League to community college with a focus on helping each student find the right fit.

What are we looking for?

Someone to help students find their voice and develop their college essays and complete their college applications. Position includes brainstorming with students and editing drafts to make sure students are following the prompts, telling good stories, and writing good essays-- but the words should belong to the students, the specialist will be a guide to help the students find their stories and craft them into full essays. Essays include the Common App personal statement, “Why College X?” and other supplemental essays. The College Essay specialist will also review students’ applications, including the Common App, University of California App, Cal-States App and UCAS (United Kingdom) App.

The ideal candidate is:

  • An empathetic listener who can ask great questions to help students find their stories
  • Experienced with the college admissions process and college essay writing and applications
  • Able to adapt to different students’ needs, personalities, motivation levels, and writing abilities
  • Flexible to meet with students virtually during the evenings and weekends (if needed)
  • Available for afternoon and evening appointments in the Pacific time zone.

Compensation & Start Date

  • This is an hourly position. The hourly rate typically ranges from $50-$100/hour
  • Work will begin in June and go through January, with a busy season from June - November. The number of hours will vary.
  • All work is remote, with many of the students in the Pacific time zone.
  • There are opportunities for growth if you want to expand into other aspects of the college consulting process
